Miami Teaching Fellows Home Miami Teaching Fellows Program Overview Earning Your Florida Teaching Certificate Who We Want to Become Miami Teaching Fellows The Application Process Frequently Asked Questions Contact Us

This year, Miami Teaching Fellows is specifically looking for participants to teach in the following subject areas:

  • Elementary Education
  • English
  • Exceptional Student Education (ESE) – Often referred to as ‘special education’ in other states
  • Math
  • Science

Candidates accepted into the Miami Teaching Fellows program will be assigned to teach in one of the above subject areas. The subject in which Fellows are accepted to teach is based primarily on teaching eligibility and, when possible, a candidate’s subject area preferences – as stated in his or her application.

The process of matching Fellows with specific available teaching positions in high need schools in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is coordinated through the Miami Teaching Fellows office. Fellow assignments will be determined through a variety of processes including, but not necessarily limited to, Fellowship-sponsored interview and placement fairs with principals and the coordination of individual on-site interviews between school staff and Fellows.

We ask Fellows to keep in mind that placement is a challenging process. Due to teacher mobility within the school system from year to year, it is often difficult to predict exact teaching assignments until very close to the beginning of the school year.

It is the mission of the Miami Teaching Fellows to place all Fellows in schools with the highest need for teachers. As a result, all candidates should be prepared to teach wherever they are needed the most. Again, Fellows will have the opportunity to express placement preferences, but school placements are primarily driven by school needs and by each Fellow’s qualifications. As a Fellow, you must be extremely flexible about your teaching assignment.
