Make a Difference
The Miami Teaching Fellows is designed for individuals who are looking for socially meaningful work and for new challenges. By accepting an offer to join the Fellows program, you will be able to impact the lives of your students daily, and your hard work and dedication will influence students for a lifetime. Multiple studies have proven that teacher quality is one of the most significant determinants of students’ success. With this knowledge in mind, the Miami Teaching Fellows’ alternate route to teaching focuses on recruiting, selecting, and training talented and successful individuals to shape the future of education in Miami-Dade County.
This is the fourth year of the Miami Teaching Fellows program, and our goal is to place a cadre of excellent and highly-committed teachers in the classrooms where they are needed the most. Although they may be new to teaching, we expect these accomplished individuals to exhibit a dedication to doing something about educational achievement and to helping their students build the foundations for their future.
Are you ready to make a difference? Apply today to join others just like you and to become part of a powerful force that can help to impact Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and its students in incredible ways.
Educate Yourself
The State of Florida offers you the unique ability to pursue your teacher education while you enter the classroom to teach our students. Through the Miami Teaching Fellows and its alternative preparation program, you will have the chance to earn your Professional Certificate while earning a salary as a full-time teacher. The alternative certification program includes a series of on-line workshops, evening and/or weekend courses, as well as an ongoing portfolio review.
Build Your Career
The Miami Teaching Fellows offers you both the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of M-DCPS students and to further your own professional career by providing you with a pathway to earn a teaching certificate.
The starting salary for Fellows is the same as that for all other beginning teachers in the M-DCPS system; a first-year Fellow can expect to make approximately $38,000 to $40,000 annually. Fellows with a Master’s degree directly related to their teaching assignment also receive an additional $3,000 in pay. Fellows teaching ESE, math, and science can expect their salary to start on a slightly higher step and be around $38,000. They are also eligible for a $1,000 stipend upon completion of the school year.
We hope that Fellows will make a lifetime commitment to public education in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The ambitious goal of the Miami Teaching Fellows is to build a network of Miami-Dade County teachers passionate about educational equity and ready to work actively to achieve results in their classrooms on a daily basis, alongside other M-DCPS teachers with the same focus.
